One of UTD's Locksmiths, James ("JB") Barnes has been making signs for the new building since last October. JB with an estimated 1350 parts he made for 450 signsEvery doorway must be identified in accordance with regulations with both text and Braille room numbers. The room numbers are mounted on a ¼ x 10 x 16 inch acrylic back plate that is mounted near the strike side of the door. In his spare time, JB fabricates all the parts with the aid of computer controlled sign making equipment. JB estimates that it will take 3 to 4 weeks to install all the signs with only the room numbers. Parts for about 450 of the 576 planned signs are complete.
