About the Construction Schedule
Area Designations for New Building
The building construction is being managed in four areas or sections, labeled counter-clockwise from the Northwest corner as areas A, B, C, and D. Teams of specialty contractors move from area to area. Each team completes tasks that are preliminary to tasks to be completed by a following team. Each area of the building is in a different stage of construction, but work on all areas proceeds simultaneously. At this time, the areas are being completed in reverse order.

Artium, West elevationThe smell of fresh paint wafted in the mechanically chilled air of the first floor as we nudged through the temporary plywood door past dozens of workers. The building is closed up now save for one or two small openings waiting for glass. The burnished block is complete. Stucco and metal panels are 70-80% installed. Ceramic tile and carpeting are appearing throughout the first and second floors. All lights have been installed, with the 90% of the lights on the first 3 floors receiving power.
 
Second floor classroomInstallation begins next Tuesday for fancy millwork and fixed tables: acoustic tiles and auditorium seating will follow. Kitchen equipment and furniture should begin arriving in the middle of June.

Outside, concrete is about 50% complete. The new building's fiber network cable will be tied into the campus next Friday, the network will be up and running by July 15.
 
Tentatively, occupants of the 3rd and 4th floors will begin to move in on July 21. The occupants of the 1st and 2nd floor begin moving in on August 4. One of the supervisors anticipates a 7 day work week and 2 shifts for some trades beginning next Tuesday. The big push is on!First floor hallway cleanup

There have been 93 continuous days without a loss time accident. Approximately 251 workers are on site today:

  • Dickey's Landscaping: 2 people
  • Elite Fire Protection (sprinkler systems): 10 people
  • Hensel Phelps (office & field personnel): 18 people
  • Jennings Glass (glaziers): 9 people
  • NOW (exterior panels and metal) 7 people
  • Pollard Tile: 8 people
  • Simplex Grinnell (fire alarm system): 2 people
  • Southwest Construction Inc. (damp proofing, caulking and sealants): 5 people
  • ThyssenKrupp Elevators: not on site today
  • Triangle Plastering: 9 people
