Construction workers and guests attended the project's first Safety Barbeque. The event was held in the shade of the first floor deck of section D. From this day forward, each 90 days with out a lost time accident will be celebrated with an on-site barbeque (and the peach cobbler was fantastic).
Yesterday, a backhoe severed a power line. A temporary generator was brought on site late last night. The temporary generator will probably remain until Monday.
The first truck load of medium pressure air ducts was delivered today. The ducts are of various sizes as determined by the design of the building. The ducts
will connect to numerous terminal units (TU) located throughout the building. Each TU regulates the mixture of hot and cold air under the control of a central computer. Medium pressure is considered to be 6 inches water gauge from a U-tube manometer.
The hardware to hang the ductwork and to attach wall partitions to the ceiling is being installed simultaneously. Workers maneuver mobile lift equipment to position and install the hardware and fixtures. A "laser level" is used to pinpoint mounting locations on the ceiling from the diagrams marked on the floor. The laser level has replaced the old method of using a plumb line, saving many hours.
There are only 14 more columns to pour in sections C and A. This will complete the construction of concrete columns.
As of today building construction has used approximately 11,386 cubic yards of concrete and 1,209 tons of steel rebar.
It has been 52 days with no lost time accidents. Approximately 101 workers are on site today, the subcontractors are:
- Addison Harrington (deck pouring & finishing): 12 people
- Baker Drywall (interior, exterior): 10 people
- Brandt Engineering (plumbing): 11 people
- Compass Steel (structural steel): 4 people
- Encompass (electrical): 9 people
- Great Western (steel rebar): 3 people
- Hensel Phelps (project management & column pouring): 22 people
- Westbrook Construction (forms for columns & decks): 30 people
