A Christmas tree was used on December 6 to top-off the building. Hensel Phelps field engineers Meguil and Bill utilized a "total station" transit (electronic distance meter) to ensure the tree was mounted plumb to within 1/1000th of a foot. Blinking lights have been added, bringing Christmas joy to all of University Parkway, the main road into the campus.
The wall enclosure for the generator pad will be complete today. The generator provides emergency lighting in case of a power failure.
There is a big push to complete the exterior of section C. Drywall and damp-proofing must be installed before the masonry work can begin.
The storm drains for sections B, C and D were successfully tested over the last two weeks.
Terminal units (TU) for the heating and cooling system have been pressure tested by the Office of Facilities, Planning and Construction (OFPC.) Each TU includes actuator controlled dampers and airflow measuring equipment. The TUs will be networked with a central control computer. One of the workmen stated that in 20 years of experience, he has only observed this high quality equipment being used at universities and hospitals.
This weekend, crews will "cut-in" chill-water valves into the campus loop. The last leg of piping for the steam and chill water lines will be ready to tested and approval by January 3rd. The steam lines will operate at 125 PSI at approximately 465°F. The chill-water lines will operate at 30 PSI at approximately 35°F.
