Barbara Curry, Distinguished Alumni 2000

An active member of The School of Management Advisory Council, Barbara Curry graduated from UTD with a master of science degree in 1984.

An inherently determined person, at UTD Ms. Curry gained many of the tools necessary to break into the ranks of senior management in a large corporation. Since being hired in 1979, she has moved up the corporate ladder at TXU via positions in human resources, corporate services, and as assistant to the chairman. She currently serves as an Executive Vice President of TXU. Ms. Curry has responsibility for information technology, procurement services, human resources, environmental services, administrative services, and research and development.

"Barbara leads a balanced life and places a strong emphasis on giving back to her community," says Dr. Diane Seay McNulty, SOM associate dean for external affairs. "Her personal network from this involvement has been an asset to the UTD Advisory Council."

Volunteering is of central importance to Ms. Curry. In addition to her role at UTD, she serves on many local boards, including the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, Goodwill Industries, and the Nature Conservancy of Texas.

She has been recognized for her achievements at local and state levels as a member of the 1996 Class of Leadership Texas and the 1995 Class of Leadership Dallas. She also was a 1996 Leadership Fellow in a program jointly sponsored by the International Women's Forum, the Department of Labor, and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
