Ann K. Utley, Distinguished Alumni 2000

A Texas native, Ms. Utley has given back to the Lone Star State through her many volunteer positions and contributions. Much of this work has been dedicated to the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (MHMR). Former Governor Ann Richards appointed Ms. Utley chairman of the MHMR Board in 1991, and Governor George W. Bush retained her in that position.

Her work in Austin sparked an interest in politics and lobbying, and this experience eventually led to a decision to continue her education.

"The School of Management has benefited tremendously from Ann's political contacts and her knowledge of Austin," says Dr. David Springate, associate dean of executive education programs for The School of Management. "She brings a unique perspective together with boundless energy and enthusiasm to all her endeavors."

Ms. Utley completed the Executive MBA program at UTD in 1997. Since then, she has joined the SOM Advisory Council and has continued her work in the political arena. One of three owners of the Salado, Texas Galleries, Ms. Utley also is CEO of TextOrder.com, a start-up technology company, in Austin, Texas.
